John C. Fech, a horticulturist at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension, discusses climate change in his latest column. He asks the controversial question whether or not climate change is real, and takes a look at what it could mean for the golf course industry. As he points out, it’s prudent to consider all available facts in an engaged but non-emotional manner when determining a position.
For the golf course industry, climate change could mean many things from the need for change in management practices, grass species grown, or the overall arrangements of plants and features on the course. It could also mean increased insurance claims due to a greater frequency and magnitude of natural catastrophe claims, severe heat patterns and precipitation that could promote the vitality of invasive species and more.
